Sample Assignments
In developing courses that are applicable and reflective, I have found enjoyment in creating assignments that align with my teaching philosophy. Here are a select few of some assignments I have created that I am happy to share and have used. Fellow instructors welcome to contact me for additional information - or even feedback!
Students are given the option of 5 books and self-enroll on a first come first serve basis in groups of 5-7 (this sometimes means that there is more than one group per book). Students are required to meet 3 times across the semester and individually submit two deliverables. This can be used in online and face-to-face course modalities.
I called this assignment "Let's Talk About the Name of the Course" because at the time "Abnormal Psychology" was the course title. I thought it extremely important for students to think about this broadly from a social justice and mental health stand point. In addition to the actual discussion prompt, I've also included my standard discussion post syllabus statements and discussion rubric. This assignments was designed for an asynchronous online 300 level undergraduate course.
